Toby Deal started in the log home business in 1986 as a single male looking for a cozy and efficient home.  After acquiring a lot outside of Martinsville, Virginia; he considered several home choices but chose a cedar log home package from Cedardale Log Homes of Greensboro, N. C.   The service from the dealer was so bad that Toby was forced to become a dealer for this company to enable his home to be completed.

                                               

That bad situation soon was turned into a good one since he loved all the special features that log home living enabled, and also loved helping customers make their many decisions.   The post and beam home of northern white cedar was warm and cozy, but somewhat expensive.  So he decided to look into other options for his customers.

After much research he decided to also offer a non-precut white pine option from a company in Maggie Valley, N. C.  This worked out great for many years and his customers were very pleased.  Together they even offered several seminars on how to build and maintain a log home.  However, when the president of the company retired and his son took over, things were not as smooth.  The logs were still high quality, but the dependability of the company fell.  So Toby decided to look for a better company and product.

This led to the relationship with Honest Abe Log Homes beginning in 1998 and he has remained with this company (even as picky as he is) until the present.  They sell precut, kiln-dried, white pine packages and offer many styles and sizes of logs. Along with the cedar option still offered to customers, he also has access to a high quality non-precut company if the customer chooses that option.   All of the packages are kiln-dried except the white cedar, and this is highly recommended for a quality home that will not settle and cause problems later.

NOTE:  A few companies still do not kiln-dry their logs and cut costs by not doing so.  Stay away from these companies even if they are a bit cheaper than ones who kiln-dry.
